Gobsmacked HBS Editor's Go-To Lip Products

I do not wear makeup; no mascara, no foundation, no lipstick, no eyeshadow, no nothing. However, I never leave the house without something on my lips. Whether a balm, gloss or stain, I want a product that makes my lips look and feel great; no one likes dry, cracked lips! Since there’s so much room in my purse from not toting around makeup, I’m able to bring a few of my favorite lip products along with me for touchups throughout the day. I’m always on the lookout for the next best thing, but I have more than enough lip products to last me quite some time. If you were wondering, here are the lip savers I currently carry with me at all times.

Maybelline New York Baby Lips in Quenched($4.49 at ulta.com)
I love Baby Lips lip balms. They come in cute colors, smell delicious, and contain SPF 20 which is rare for lip products. The balms really make your lips smooth and supple and one tiny tube lasts a long time!

Clarins Instant Smooth Crystal Balm in Crystal Berry(From $29.99 at amazon.com)
I’m one of the lucky few to have this limited edition lip balm(its rarity is the reason for high prices on sites like amazon and eBay). It gives the color of a lipstick and the hydrating effects of a balm. I have Crystal Berry(number 08), which smells like berry and goes on silky smooth. Another reason I love the balms: they just look cool! The pigment is suspended in the core, surrounded by the transparent balm and the packaging looks very high-end.

Origins Lip Remedy Soothing Lip Saver($13.50 at macys.com)
The tingling effect is what I love most about this balm; it leaves you with a minty fresh feeling. It’s made with menthol and camphor which cause the tingling sensation and soothe and relieve dryness and roughness.

Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stain in Blackberry Sorbet($14 at sephora.com)
Unlike many other stains I’ve tried, this one is in no way sticky. It features avocado oil for a smooth, creamy texture. It’s not heavy at all and the color lasts long.
HBS Tip: If the color is too deep, apply a small amount(half a swipe) on one lip over a clear balm then press your lips together to smooth it out. It will appear lighter though a little glossier as well.

Vaseline Lip Therapy, Original(from 1.49 at drugstores)
Whenever I have chapped lips(or even dry skin around my mouth), I apply vaseline. It heals dryness instantly. I’ll also put some on before I put on a lipstick or gloss so it stays smooth without feeling sticky.

Nars Satin Lip Pencil($26 at sephora.com) in both Cruella and Rikugien Rose Pink
Boy, do these go fast for me. Though it can be used as a lip liner, I use this product to fill my entire lip area. The pencils, made with a vitamin-enriched formula, have a creamy satin finish and the color lasts all day.

Giorgio Armani Lip Maestro in 501-Casual Pink ($36 at nordstrom.com)
Though the packaging is luxe and glossy, this is a stain, not a gloss. I love this shade as it’s subtle and complements my skin color. While it’s not overpowering, the color is noticeable and looks and feels luxurious.
