The Cat’s Meow Hello Kitty’s Sweet Southern California Debut

If you haven’t heard, yet another food truck has been added to Southern California’s fleet. This one, though, is a little different. Say hello to the Hello Kitty Pop-up Cafe, a food truck that offers Hello Kitty-themed sweet treats and products. It’s the first of its kind in the U.S. and since it opened shop in Irvine on Friday, July 15, their inventory has sold out almost every day.

Though the truck is currently visiting the Oakbrook Center in Chicago, the cafe’s home is at the Irvine Spectrum Center here in SoCal. It operates daily and hasn’t had a slow day since it’s debut at the mall last month. If you plan on going, prepare for long lines(and waits for up to 4 hours).

What will you find at the truck, which was designed within a metal shipping container? To help offset boredom during the wait, there’s Sanrio’s selfie-wall with different backdrops featuring your favorite kitty herself. There are also cutouts of Hello Kitty near the cafe’s seating area. As for goodies, which range in price from $4 to $11, there’s lots and lots of sweets. Coffee, artisanal sodas, teas, and pretty pink pastries, are what’s currently on the menu. There are also t-shirts, mugs, and other Hello Kitty-themed products.

According to a USA Today article, there have been talks of the possibility of a brick and mortar home in the Irvine Spectrum Center for the cafe. Fingers crossed!

To find out the status of the truck, visit the Hello Kitty Cafe Facebook page while their site is being constructed.
