I am not a perfectionist. It’s not that I don’t want things to be perfect, but I fail so hard so often, I’ve given up all expectations. I can not not get nail polish on the skin around my nails no matter how hard I try. I can not keep any amount of lipstick on for any significant amount of time. To overcome my shortcomings, I have searched far and wide for techniques that even I can execute. And, because I’m so nice, I will share them with you here.
Nail Glitter Polish
If you’re like me, then you probably get frustrated with how little glitter actually gets on your nails no matter how many coats of glitter nail polish you apply. Thanks to a helpful YouTube video, though, my self-manicures will no longer suffer. Instead of applying the polish directly to your nail by way of brush, instead follow these steps. 1. Apply clear base coat to nail 2. Apply liquid latex to skin around nail 3. Brush glitter nail polish onto edge of makeup sponge 4. Dab the polish onto your nail. Voila! Because the sponge soaks up the polish that makes it so hard to get the glitter on evenly, the glitter will cover up your nail completely on the first coat.
Remove Gel Polish Without Damaging Your Nails
Before covering your nails in acetone-soaked cotton balls, protect your cuticles by applying a layer of Vaseline to each nail. Keep the cotton balls on your nails with tightly wrapped foil and make sure to leave them on for 40 minutes so that the polish is easier to remove. Finish with nail oil to prevent your nails from drying out.
Make Makeup Last Longer
There are a few ways to do this. If you want your whole face of makeup to stay put, spray on a makeup sealer, like Ben Nye Final Seal($9 at walmart.com) or a rose water setting spray. Also make sure to apply primer before applying any makeup as it will stick to your skin and the makeup will stick to the primer. To make mascara last longer, mix it with a small amount of contact solution.
Create Your Own Lip Color
If you’re not feeling the shades your collection of lip stick has to offer, create your own. Pick your favorite eye shadow and blend it with salve or Vaseline. Use your finger to apply and admire your creation in the mirror.
Make Perfume Last Longer
You’re probably already thinking “Wow Vaseline works for everything!,” but it can do even more than you though. Apply vaseline to your pulse points before spraying your favorite scent as it will hold the scent to your skin longer.
